Indoor & Outdoor Light Box Signage

Advantage of light box signs

The greatest advantage of light box signage over most other forms of signage is the fact that it provides visibility both during the day and at night. Once illuminated, a light box continues to attract attention after dark, making it one of the most effective and visually striking signage solutions available. Light boxes are also more modern and refined than many traditional advertising boards. At Redblock, we manufacture both indoor and outdoor light box signage, and we also offer face replacements for existing light boxes. When replacing the face, we can refurbish the structure where required to restore a clean, professional appearance.

Outdoor Light Box Construction

Our outdoor light boxes are typically manufactured using robust materials designed to withstand weather exposure and long-term outdoor use. These signs are commonly produced in sizes of 1 m² and larger and are constructed using:

Choosing Between Perspex and Flex-Face Panels

Perspex panels are limited to a maximum sheet size of 3050 × 2030 mm. If the length or height of a light box exceeds these dimensions, translucent PVC (flex-face) becomes the logical option for the face. To the naked eye, there is no visible difference in quality between Perspex and PVC when illuminated. Flex-face panels are often slightly more cost-effective in terms of material, but require an additional internal frame and tensioning system for proper installation. When Perspex is used, the design is printed on translucent vinyl and laminated onto the Perspex panel, whereas flex-face graphics are printed directly onto the PVC material.

Indoor Light Box Signage

Indoor light box signage is commonly used in retail stores, shopping centres, offices, and exhibition environments where controlled lighting conditions allow for a more refined visual presentation. These light boxes are typically smaller and lighter than outdoor units and can be wall-mounted, ceiling-hung, or freestanding. Indoor light boxes are ideal for close-range viewing, directional signage, and promotional displays where visual clarity and even illumination are essential.

Additional Fabrication Options

In addition to light box signage, we also manufacture illuminated and non-illuminated Perspex fabricated letters and logos. These can be produced as standalone signage elements or integrated into larger sign structures, offering additional branding flexibility and visual impact.

Choosing between a perspex or translucent PVC (Flex-Face) Light Box Face:

Perspex panels are limited to a size of 3050 x 2030mm. If the length or height of the light box exceeds these dimensions, translucent PVC will be the next logical option for the face. To the naked eye there is no difference in quality between Perspex and PVC. Flex face panels have the advantage of being slightly cheaper than Perspex face panels but the material itself is much cheaper and an additional frame must be constructed to tension the Flex face. This process is labour intensive and requires additional raw materials such as a 25 x 25mm square tube frame and a tensioning system for the construction. When Perspex is used, we print the design on a translucent vinyl sticker which is laminated and applied onto the Perspex panel whereas with flex face we print directly onto the PVC.

Installation costs of lightboxes are dependent on the following factors:

  • Your location
  • How the sign is fixed, for example, against a wall, on a post or other
  • The height between ground level and the top of the sign. Kindly send us a photo of the rigging position which includes ground level

There are various reasons contributing to the fact that a light box doesn’t light up, among these the most common one is the neon light globes have expired. They usually have a lifespan of about 3 years. As a result, we recommend LED light strips to extend the lifespan of your sign. These days LED’s are preferred as florescent light tubes are outdated. The second most common problem is usually faulty energisers or starter units but these are easy to replace. Unfortunately it is very difficult to quote on the repairing or replacing of lights inside your box without a Redblock technician inspecting the unit to identify the specific problem first.
