Photo wood printing is done directly onto the wood, with this process you get the texture and feel of the wood incorporated with the full colour artwork. The greatest benefit of wood printing is that it is less prone to damaged.
The Wood Printing service is available for custom prints.
Types of wood used for wood printing:
- KNOTTY PINE BOARDS – these are 95mm pine sheets that are timbered together using cross boards on the back side for additional support.
- VENEER BOARDS WITH A ROSEWOOD COVER – These are 9mm thick veneer boards covered with 0.3mm rosewood. This type of wood does not require it to be bound and thus gives it a neater, more finished appearance.
The wood panels that we use can be pre-treated with a primer that makes the hues in your design clearer. Redblock’s wood printing is done by a UV large format flatbed digital printer. This printer can also print white, unlike most other wide format printers that can only print on white backgrounds.

Wooden Products
We prefer your designs in the following formats: pdf (editable), tiff, eps, .cdr (vector). Files that are supported by CorelDraw (X3) or Adobe Photoshop are also acceptable. Please do not send your designs in Excel, Word, PowerPoint or Publisher. The files can be sent via email along with a quote request. If your design file is larger than 12mb you can forward it to us by using Dropbox or WeTransfer. We are happy to assist if you need any help in this regard.
Files of around 12mb can usually be sent via email without any problems.
Send us a quote request along with a description of your design or the design/photo itself via email, alternatively you can also complete our web form on the CONTACT US page on this website. Once you accept our quote, we require a 50% deposit of the total amount (as quoted) along with your final design. As in most cases you are welcome to submit your own photo or design, or our team of designers can quote you for doing the design.
Our average lead time is about 4-5 working days after layout is approved and payment is received. Any intricate work or special requests will take longer to complete. Should you want your wood sprayed with a Pantone colour, it takes about 2 working days for the paint to be mixed. Thus, custom painted wood cut-outs and panels will take about 5-7 working days. If your order requires the use of rare wood, we will request you supply the wood to us.
You are most welcome to supply your own material, but we do not take responsibility for any damages out of our control, for instance, power interruptions, moisture in wood, etc.
Our biggest printable size is 2.4 x 1.2 meters and the height of the print heads is 50mm above the flatbed. We can print on wood with a maximum thickness of up to maximum of 45mm.
No, you are not. You can provide us with your own measurements, and we will customise your size. This customisation can add an additional 3 working days to the turnaround time and an additional cost of 30% more per square meter.
Yes, it can and will resist all the outdoor elements provided it is sealed with clear varnish. This can be done by us at an additional cost that will be determined by the size of the panel. Please request a quote for this option when sending us your quote request.
The Wood printing is done with a UV printer, that is also used for printing billboards which are placed outdoors. It will literally retain its colour for hundreds of years if it is hung indoors.
