Flex Face signs are banners tensioned over a square-tubed frame and is an estimated 20% cheaper than signage with Chromadek faces.

Apart from the material used for the face printing, the specifications for Chromadek and Flex Face are the same. In the case where an outdoor sign has a surface exceeding 8m2 (the equivalent of 4m x 2 m) we usually recommend Flex Face signs as an alternative to a Chromadek face.

The advantage of a Flex Face Sign when compared to a Chromadek sign is that it is lighter and involves less strain on the frame and the posts, is significantly cheaper to manufacture and/or replace than a Chromadek face. It is generally a tidier sign – and among other things, Chromadek panels have a lot of pop rivets every 1.2 meters, where a Flex Face signs are placed at 3 meters and the join-line is less noticeable. The only downside with a Flex Face billboard is that it will start to fade about 6 -12 months earlier than Chromadek signs, which only starts to fade after approximately 2.5 – 3 years when exposed to the adverse weather conditions on a permanent basis.

Chromadek is one of the most popular choices when it comes to custom signage because it is the most basic and cost-effective choice when it comes to outdoor signage. The manufacturing process of Chromadek involves creating a flat, adherent surface that is perfectly suited to fix vinyl onto. This provides more customisability than most other available options and the epoxy coated galvanized steel sheeting gives it more durability in the adverse weather conditions.

Our Chromadek signs are made of digitally printed vinyl that is applied onto a Chromadek sheet with the option to laminate the sign. Lamination can be done with either a transparent vinyl or a special lamination liquid. Transparent Vinyl lamination is costlier but with the added benefit that your lamination has a neater finish and will also protect your print from conditions for much longer.

Chromadek sheets are manufactured in a standard width of 1.225m and in unlimited lengths. Our most popular sizes are 2.450 x 1.225m and 1.850 x 0.925m. Our manufacturers supply us with these 2 standard sizes or in rolls of 1.225mm in width and 50m in length. The maximum sized boards we supply are 25m2 and the equivalent to 10m x 2.5m.

There are three types vinyl available for Chromadek Signs – these are: Polymeric, Monomeric or Cast Vinyl. The purpose and expected lifespan of a sign will dictate which of these are used.

  • Required size of the sign
  • What is your preferred face, Flex (PVC) or Chromadek?
  • What lamination type do you prefer? Please keep in mind that PVC Flex can only be laminated with liquid and not with transparent vinyl as in the case with Chromadek signs.
  • Do you require installation, or are you planning to erect the sign yourself?

For us to accurately quote you on the erection of your Billboard, we will need the following information:

  • The area/address where your sign will be erected.
  • We will require a photograph indicating the exact installation position, either on the photograph or in an explanation in the body of your email.
  • The graphic design and layout of your billboard can also be done by our in-house team of designers – please indicate when requesting your quote.

Once your 50% deposit is received and your artwork proof is signed off, we will be able to confirm an available date for the installation of your sign/s. This can be between 4 – 5 working days after we received your 50% deposit and your final proofs are signed off.

Instead of re-erecting your sign, REDBLOCK also offers a service to re-do or replace your signage face to assist you in saving on expenses. If you have billboard signs with a hard, flat surface, as in the case of Chromadek signs, we usually recommend that you replace both the board and the print. The reason being that the clean-up of the existing face is usually quite a time-consuming task and thus warrants the replacement of both the print and the board. If you are under budget constraints, and want to replace only the print, we can replace the sign by printing on a block-out Vinyl (this material is black or dark grey on the inside) that prevents the old sign from showing through the new sign or forming a “ghost image”.

In the case where you require the replacement of a Flex Face Billboard sign, we simply remove the old print and replace it with a new print onto your existing frame.
