Lightbox signs
Outdoor lightboxes
The advantage of a lightbox over any other signage is that you get twice the exposure from it because it lights up at night and stands apart from other signage. Lightboxes are more durable and more exclusive than the traditional advertising boards.
We don’t only manufacture lightboxes but also offer maintenance and restore existing light boxes.
The following is what our light boxes consist of:
- 90 or 150mm deep Aluminium extrusions
- Chromadek back-plate (when single sided)
- PVC corner connectors
- LED or Neon tubes (for lighting)
- Perspex of flex-face front face
- Wiring, starter units, timers (if requested) and energisers
The Choice between a Perspex and Translucent PVC (Flex-Face) Lightbox Face
Perspex panels are available up to a maximum size of 3 050 x 2 030mm. Therefore, if the length of the lightbox exceeds any of these dimensions, we will need to use a translucent PVC for the face. To the naked eye there is no quality difference between Perspex of PVC. A Flex-Face face has the advantage of being slightly cheaper than a Perspex face. The material itself is much cheaper, but an additional frame has to be made to tension the flex-face over, which is also a time-consuming process and requires extra raw material. A Perspex face is simply slipped into the aluminium extrusions.
In the case of Perspex, we print on a translucent vinyl sticker, which is laminated and then applied onto the Perspex and with a flex-face we print directly on the PVC.
Installation of Lightboxes
The installation cost of a lightbox depends on the following factors
- Where the client is situated
- How the sign is being installed, against a wall, on a pole etc.
- How high above the ground the top of the sign will be
Restoration of Lightboxes
Besides the manufacture of lightboxes, we also do the restoration of existing lightboxes.
Maintenance of Lightboxes
If a face is to be replaced, we can replace it with Perspex or Translucent PVC (Flex-face). With a Perspex face, in most cases, the Perspex must also be replaced because of the high probability that the Perspex will crack if it has been exposed to all of the elements for more than 12 months. Also, vinyl on the face tends to melt into the Perspex over time because of the constant low heat that it is exposed to inside the lightbox.
Restoration of lighting
There are numerous factors that could result in a lightbox that doesn’t light up. The most common among these is that the neon globes have expired (they normally stop working after 3 years or so). Because of the shorter lifetime of neon globes, we usually recommend LED light strips instead. Faulty energisers or starter units are second on the cause list and are easy to replace.
Unlike with the manufacturing and installing of a lightbox we are unable to give you a price on repairing or replacing lights inside a lightbox without one of or Redblock technicians physically seeing the inside of the lightbox beforehand. However, we are able to give you an estimate based on common possibilities mentioned above.
Lightbox03
The installation cost of a small lightbox is usually not worth it. To install a lightbox of double this size would cost about the same.
Lightbox04
Florescent tubes are not popular any more. LED’s is a bit more costly, but they last a lot longer.
Lightbox05
LED’s has more advantages than florescent tubes, it uses less electricity and can be glued inside the box, therefore lowering installation cost.

Indoor lightboxes are available in standard sizes from A4 to A0 and can also be custom made
